"What a Wonderful World" is a song written by Bob Thiele (as "George Douglas") and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrongand released in 1967 as a single. In April 1968, it topped the pop chart in the United Kingdom,[3] but performed poorly in the United States because Larry Newton, the president of ABC Records, disliked the song and refused to promote it.

This was a request I got from Sonny Walkman. Not sure if he was trying to give me a hard song but little did he know that this might have been the first 45 rpm record I ever bought. Devo, a New Wave, Synth Pop band released this song in 1980. Warner Bros. did not expect this song to be a success but it became an international hit, charted in several countries & peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The video was also a hit on MTV. Joel released this song in 1973 based on his life experience as a lounge musician. He decided to do the song to escape his record company due to the poor performance of his album. This was his first major hit and now his signature song. The song peaked at #25 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified 5X Platinum. It was in the 2004 Rolling Stone list of top 500 Greatest Songs of all time and it ranked #63 in Ultimate Classic Rock's list of the Top 100 Classic Rock songs. In 2015 it was preserved by the Library of Congress National Recording Registry for being of "cultural, historical or artistic significant". Released in 2011 this song debuted at #52 on the Billboard Hot Country chart and by 2014 was the 3rd best-selling song by a male country solo artist. It also debuted at #22 on the Billboard Hot 100, the highest debut of the week with over 100k copies sold going on to become 8X Platinum. Bryan and co-writer, Dallas Davidson, came up with the song after listening to hip-hop songs. Bryan said the country genre needed more songs about "country girls shaking it".
