I think most of us have noticed the Karaoke version of a song can be different from the original. This one is very different to at the end of the song. Hunter & his father often butted heads while he was growing up & it wasn't until he was older that he started to see things from his dad's perspective. So "Ships" was a coming to terms with, & an appreciation of Ian's dad, Walter Patterson. Ian's father died 18 months after the song was released & he said goodbye on Blackpool beach where they had watched "the dogs play around on the sand" (in earlier years).
